Prof. Norman Backhaus

Norman Backhaus is a Professor of Human Geography at the Department of Geography of the University of Zurich, where he teaches and researches globalisation, nature conservation, and landscape. His work is primarily focused on understanding how different interest groups perceive and respond to change, with the broader aim of contributing to sustainable development.

Regionally, he has conducted and continues to conduct research in Southeast Asia and Switzerland, while also supervising research projects across Central and North Asia. He is a member of the Swiss Federal National Park Commission and co-director of the University Priority Programme on Global Change and Biodiversity.
