Welcome to SCIEN
Where collaboration inspires innovation!
SCIEN is a visionary initiative forged through the collaborative efforts of leading universities, dedicated to bridging the gap between academic research and actionable solutions to tackle pressing societal challenges. Rooted in a shared commitment to interdisciplinary excellence, SCIEN unites the expertise and resources of Tbilisi State University, International Black Sea University, the University of Zurich, the University of Bern(Centre for Development and Environment(CDE)), the University of Helsinki(Ruralia Institute), and the University of Innsbruck.
Beyond academia, SCIEN broadens its horizons through strategic partnerships with leading development organizations operating locally and globally. Esteemed collaborators such as SWISSCONTACT, the United Nations Development Programme(UNDP), the Centre for Development and Environment(CDE), and the City Institute of Georgia enhance SCIEN’s ability to bridge knowledge and practice. By uniting academic rigor with practical solutions, SCIEN creates a dynamic ecosystem for driving sustainable development and impactful change.
SCIEN actively collaborates with local institutions, including Civil Society Organizations(CSOs), Local Action Groups(LAGs), Municipalities, Destination Management Organizations(DMOs), and other grassroots initiatives. These partnerships play a vital role in grounding SCIEN's vision within the lived realities of local communities, ensuring that development processes are both inclusive and participatory. Hence, SCIEN fosters a bottom-up approach to innovation, where community voices shape and drive sustainable change.
This partnership establishes a dynamic platform for innovation, where cutting-edge research meets practical application. SCIEN supports dialogue across disciplines and institutions to address complex global issues with localized relevance and impact.
