The research project refers to the "Covenant of Mayors" (CoM) initiative of the European Union, which aims to pursue climate and energy policy objectives to contribute to climate change mitigation and adaptation.
In this respect, the research focuses on the 26 signatory municipalities in Georgia and is guided by the following key objectives:
- To examine the present practices and methods of municipalities in the fulfillment of the climate and energy policy obligations under the CoM;
- To study the municipal information/data generation and reporting processes required for climate and energy actions;
- To determine the municipal bodies accountable for executing and monitoring the CoM commitments.
By studying these topics, the research results will ultimately contribute to improving evidence-based decision-making approaches at the municipal level.
Funded under the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) initiative Climate Promise, as part of the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) support programme, facilitated by the NDC Partnership, with generous funding from the governments of Germany, Japan, the European Union, the United Kingdom, Sweden, Spain, Belgium, Iceland, Italy, and Portugal, as well as the core donors of the United Nations Development Programme.
